Half million people visit Yemen wing in Zaragoza 2008 Expo

Some 450,000 people visited the Yemeni wing in the International Zaragoza 2008 Expo since its opening in mid-June.

Director of Gold Beach Company Hassan al-Faran told Saba News Agency that around 80,000 persons visited the wing during the past two days, most of them being Spanish visitors.

The Participation of Yemen in the exhibition is thought to attract further Spanish tourists and investors to Yemen.

Yemen is currently displaying its heritage of natural resource management at the exhibition in Spain under the slogan "Water and Sustainable Development." Spanish media has been quoted as saying that a million guests are expected to visit the event. Some 104 countries are participating in the event.

Ibb prepares for Sixth Annual Tourist Festival

Mohammed Abu Bakr al-Moflehi, Minister of Culture, and Ahmed Abdullah al-Hajri, Governor of Ibb Governorate, have begun preparations for holding the Sixth Annual Tourist Festival scheduled to be held during August 5-12.

The Festival will include an artistic operetta, symposiums, poetic and literary lectures, music concerts and art shows.

During meeting held early this week, the Minister of Culture and the Governor of Ibb stressed the need for protection of Yemen’s cultural heritage and the necessity to rehabilitate archaeological and historical locations.

The Minister of Culture accompanied by Abdul-Wahed Salah, Deputy Governor of Ibb, visited the project to rehabilitate the Culture Bureau. The project has an estimated cost of YR 120 million.

Abdul-Hakim Moqbil, General Manager of the Culture Bureau, offered detailed illustrations of what has been achieved for the project claiming that 90 percent of it has been finished; the rest will be completed during the coming few days.

The Minister opened a new showroom for art in the House of Art in the old city, with a total cost of YR 7 million, contained among the project of the exception plan.

The Minister of Culture also opened the variety show of the artist Yahya Abdullah al-Showiter, which contained a number of artistic charts embodying artistic talents on a number of topic related to social and national trends.

The Minister praised the efforts exerted by the cadres at the Culture Bureau and their role in teaching the society and creating a public point of view enlightened with issues of national, regional and international interest.

“We highly appreciate the support of the local authority in the governorate for all activities related to art and culture and its participation in rehabilitating archaeological and historical sites and landmarks,” he concluded.
